Dianne Feinstein has been absent from Congress and asked to resign. Feinstein, 89 years old, has some of the most unusual trades in Congress, over her thirty year career. In that time, her net worth sky rocketed to over $200 million.
For reference, Feinstein herself is paid a $190,000 salary. Her financial disclosures are often late, including her annual asset summary. In unrelated transactions, Feinstein owns numerous properties including the Carlton Hotel in San Francisco and personal homes in Aspen, Hawaii, Spring Valley, and Pacific Heights worth an estimated total of at least $50 million.
Let’s look at some of her unusual trades:
Feinstein reportedly attended Covid hearings by the CDC in early Jan 2020. Afterwards, her husband sold between $1.5 & $6 million in stock Allogene Therapeutics amongst others. The stock market collapsed shortly afterwards. Feinstein was cleared by the DOJ.
In April 2018, Mark Zuckerberg testified before the Senate's Judiciary Committee, which Feinstein sat on. But in Jan 2018, Feinstein’s husband bought $250,000 Facebook stock. Only in May 2018 did Feinstein disclose the $META purchase. Feinstein praised $META in the hearing.
In Aug 2020, Feinstein’s husband purchased $50,000 in College Reaction, a private polling company. On Jan 6th, the day of the Capitol strike, Feinstein said the "previously unreported transaction conducted by my spouse" should've been disclosed. She didn't pay a penalty. In fact, Feinstein said that "I recognize that this untimely filing carries a monetary penalty, which I will pay upon notification from the Senate Select Committee on Ethics," and yet NEVER paid a fine that is documented anywhere.
As a member of the Intelligence Committee until 2016, Feinstein insisted that the National Security Agency was right to secretly collect data on huge numbers of telephone calls made by Americans. And she backed the CIA’s covert use of Predator drones to conduct targeted killings in half a dozen nations. She supported numerous bills regarding expanding big tech. At the same time, she and her husband held numerous large tech companies, including META, T, GOOGL and others which was in direct conflict with her position and committee assignments.
Although unrelated financially, Feinstein has had numerous other conflicts including a staffer for Senator Feinstein turned out to be a Chinese spy who reported back to the Chinese government officials about local politics.
On Dec 4, 2009, Feinstein & her husband bought $1 million in Amyris Biotechnologies. It was their only transaction the entire year. Weeks after, the company was awarded a $24 million governmental grant. Later, Feinstein introduced her own bill that benefited Amyris Biotech.
